Oh I just LOVE fall. AND I love October. My most favorite month of all. I just love everything about it. The changing of the air, to the fall colors, to pumpkin spice everything. I have been enjoying my fall candles and pumpkin spiced goodies. I love fall so much and knew when we were planning my wedding that an October wedding was a must. On the 30th of this month Chase and I will be celebrating six years! One day before that, we are celebrating two years with our sweet babies. I think its such a God-wink that our children decided to make their appearance during my most favorite month. I have not been a mother long, I am far from the perfect one and I still have a lot to learn, yet I feel like God is revealing so much about his character to me through my role as a mother. There are so many spiritual truths that come with being a mom.
Lets start with messes. Oh do my kids make them!! Why do I even bother to clean the house? For I know when they wake up my kitchen and den will look like a bomb went off all over again. They are tall enough to reach the kitchen drawers and like to sneak pens and markers.. oh my. You can forget trying to take the lazy way out and just laying the kids down in their cribs pant-less. Oh no you don't just lay me down in my diaper they say… for when you come get me up I will greet you bare butt with a nice pee stained mattress and maybe some poop on my hands. Yes, Chase got a nice taste of this just the other day while I was working :) And why do they love throwing food on the floor? Its like their favorite past time. They KNOW they get in big trouble when they dump their plate out or slam that milk cup on the tile.. yet someone at least once per meal throws their food. But, don't we do the same in life? We make messes all the time. Messes are messy and lead to sticky consequences at times, but they feel so good for such a fleeting time. They can me fun! But they stink.. they leave us dirty. Guess what though? God paid the ultimate price.. he bore our stinkiest messiest sins so no mess is too big for him to forgive… to wipe clean. Debt paid. Sin bore. Shame and guilt gone. WHITE AS SNOW.
He himself bore our sins" in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; "by his wounds you have been healed. 1 Peter 2:24
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
Knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, 19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. 1 Peter 1:8
Ok so my kids are home wreckers. Oh yes small group you may see a clean house when you get here on Sunday afternoons.. but that clean appearance lasts all for about 5 minutes! They are also dare devils. I think kids try to kill themselves all the time. You have to watch them every second. Oh look a light switch.. let me go stick my finger in it. To oh this hard rock-like object will go great into my mouth! Let me see if I can slide it down my throat. Or what about that nice looking swimming pool… let me just go take a quick dip head first without my floaties on ( haven't actually done this but know they have been tempted). Moms.. you do your best to watch your kids like a hawk. You act like you are really listening to the other mom conversations but you are only half listening because you are having to make sure your kid doesn't run off or do some Evil Knievel stunt. You have their best interest and see dangerous situations before they happen. You can see the bigger picture when kids just see an opportunity to explore new things. You do your best to keep your children out of harm because you love them and want to protect them. How much more does our heavenly father love us? He cares about our well being and wants to nurture and grow our faith every day.
The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble, and He knows those who trust in him. Nahum 1:7
Many are the afflictions of the righteousness, but the LORD delivers him out of them all. Psalm 34:19
We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken, struck down but not destroyed. 2 Corinthians 4:8-9
Dressing kids. Dressing twins. Should be an olympic sport. Sometimes I feel like I am wrestling alligators. After bath time they take off running down the hall naked. I have to chase them and slap a diaper on them. Then they run away again and I have to pin them down and clothe them. Remember we already discussed bed/naptime routines. Kids must be dressed or you may find some extra surprises in the beds. We haven't mastered getting our pants off yet but we can get our shirts off during nap time. They do love to run and help me get their shoes on. They scream SHOES when I say its time to go outside. They both love to play dress up. Ellie likes to put on tutus and brother will follow suit. I guess that is just a boy girl thing they love to do everything the other one is doing. As as OT, I am proud that they are helping with their dressing routine. Just like Chase and I clothe our children (even though they don't always match when dad clothes them) the Lord clothes us! As Christ followers, we are able to put on the spiritual outfit that God provides us.. garments of salvation, robes of righteousness, etc. Just imagine if you begin every day putting on the garmets that God provides. Letting him drape around you his peace, his truth, his righteousness and his mighty power. How much better would your day be? Would petty things matter? Would anxiety and fears win? I think not. Choose to don these clothes that he offers every morning.
I delight greatly in the Lord, my soul rejoices in my God, for he has clothed me with garments of salvation, and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness. Isaiah 61
Therefore, as Gods chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Colossians 3:12
Lord, I thank you that you love us and accept us where we are but refuse to leave us this way. That you offer your protection from the evil one because ultimately you win! You have paid the ultimate price for us all even though we did nothing to deserve it and you washed us white as snow through your blood. Thank you that we can bring our messes to you. That no mess is too big for you and your grace. Thank you that we can clothe ourselves in you and put on your characteristics through your Holy Spirit inside of us.
Much love! Shout out to the moms. Momm'n aint easy
