Oh little blog.. It's been too long! I must apologize for not writing, but honestly I have barely have time to brush my teeth and put on clean pants at times. Ok ok.. I do have time for this, but some days are whirlwinds and it doesnt seem like I have time for anything! These babies know how to keep their parents busy! For mothers day, my gift was a leisure shower and I even got to spend 20 extra minutes straightening my hair :) :) They are sleeping 11 hours at night so I can't really complain. Oh but how fun they are! Today at their 6 month check up the doctor said they will be crawling really soon.. Oh Lordy I can just imagine what these two will be getting into!! Or.. Maybe I don't want to imagine!! Ahhhh! They amaze me every day though. The great thing about our open adoption is our children have so many people that love them. It just brings me great joy when our parents' faces light up and smile when we walk through their doors with the babies or when our birth family gets excited about seeing pictures and wanting updates on how they are doing.
As the babies are getting older and starting to be on the move, they are starting to get in trouble. Mama is teaching them the word "NO". They are starting to respond to my change in facial expression and putting together the fact that mamas face is not laughing or smiling when she is saying that word. Why is it important to teach or children discipline? Why start now? Because we love them SO much, that's why.
I love what proverbs 3:11-12 says- " My son, do not despise the Lords discipline and do not resent his rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in"
Discipline can also interchanged with the words control, training, teaching, instruction, direction, order, and authority. All great things we need in our lives.
Is discipline fun? No. Frankly, it just plain stinks.. for the discipliner and the disciplinee. It takes effort, and sometimes going the extra mile parents, to discipline your children. Its not convenient or pleasurable. (Well, I can think of one instance where it may be for my husband.. he said he can't wait for when E and W get older and get in big trouble he is going to punish them by clearing our fence rows! ) LOL
Hebrews 12:11 puts it this way- "No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it"
That sounds pretty good to me. I could sure use some peace harvests right about now! I feel like we have been hit in all directions financially lately and I have been feeling anything but peace. Just when we think, if we can just get through this, we will be ok and we can start putting back some money, another blow hits us.. ahhh! So frustrating and flustering!
Well, God has been laying on my heart the word discipline and self discipline.
Self discipline can also be translated to self control, restraint, will power, purposefulness, persistence, determination or grit.
We recently attended a financial workshop and together, Chase and I are excited about becoming more disciplined in this area of our life so that we can be more free to give and experience a harvest of peace in our finances. We are determined to bear down and persist in this area so we can live the life God has called us to live- one of peace and righteousness.
What areas in your life do you need to say "NO" to.. or what areas do you need to practice self discipline, grit, restraint, or determination in? I pray that God would lay that on your heart this week as you focus on him.
Maybe its getting up 20 minutes earlier to spend some uninterrupted time talking to God or reading his word. Maybe its saying no to unhealthy choices and yes to lifestyle changes. Maybe its practicing more self discipline in the ways you spend your time. Or are you like me, and need to practice self discipline in your financial life so you can not be enslaved to debt, give freely and live passionately?
The word no can be hard to say, and punishments are not easy, but how thankful we are that our pains and trials produce such fruits! Thankful just as we have parents that love us, our creator loves us even more and is calling us to a live a full life in him. Constantly working on our hearts, molding and shaping our character.
Much love! Many blessings,
Taylor
Here's the kids enjoying some blueberries and looking like creepy zombies at the same time ;)
