I'm usually not a list person but I'm finding the older I get and the crazier the kids get the more I need to write stuff down! I put everything in my phone and write down on my paper calendar that I keep in my purse just to keep everything straight. Driving down the road today thinking of all the million bajillion things I need to do and all the gifts I need to get soon. Mother's Day is coming up so I was thinking about that, birthday party gifts and a donation for FCA camp that I need to gift tonight were on my radar. I guess you can say I do a lot of thinking when I drive. Probably
not the best idea, I need to be focusing more on the road!
I don't know if you remember or saw but Chase and I posted our adoption reveal photo and we were holding two gifts. That's just the best way to describe our sweet babies.. as gifts. I just want pinch myself at times I still can't believe I get to be their mama. They are so smart and funny and love to learn new things. In the season we are in now..potty training, learning manners, trying to share with others, teaching that your privates are YOUR privates and you can't touch anyone else's or show anyone else yours, to helping with cleaning up and not telling mom and dad NO when we ask you to do something, to meltdowns, that clothes in public are a must, to hands to yourself and teeth are not for biting.. it can get pretty easy to forgot that we have such gifts. Sometimes I can't bring myself to call them gifts when they gobbled down the pig food or licked the poop filled bird bath or pooped in their panties after talking about it and telling them you can't do that 3 times just five minutes before. Toddlerhood is so tiring and props to my friends who have toddlers and just welcomed baby #2 or welcoming baby #2 real soon. That thought scares me right now. You kind of forget how God brought you through such a stormy season and how sovereign he is when you are focusing on your current circumstances and muddled down in the midst of chaos aka toddlers.. enough said.
We had the opportunity a while back to share our story with new friends who are walking a very similar journey as we did almost four years ago. Wow. What a wonderful thing to get to share our story. Such healing has come from such mourning and emptiness. Such joy we have in our hearts as we are getting to parent two little souls. I think they got to see that joy and it encouraged them that the Lord is still writing their story.. in fact he already wrote their story and joy is around the corner.
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
James 1:17 NIV
God gives his gifts everyday. Is up to us to pay attention to them. From a beautiful sunrise and nature, to a random text message from a friend that comes at just the right time, to family time with your loved ones, to your daughter saying "You are so pretty Mom" etc. what gifts from above have you encountered today? Are you too caught up in your circumstances and maybe harboring negativity that you are missing out on the great gifts that The Lord wants to give you? Because.. sometimes they are easy to miss. Maybe you need to do an attitude check like I do all the time when I am so frustrated with the kids.
The ultimate gift is what we just celebrated this past easter.
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—”
Ephesians 2:8 NIV
The great sacrifice was made for you and me to get to spend eternity with God and to be able to have a personal relationship with him. Man.. if it wasn't for him I couldn't be where I am today. Thank you Lord for your abundant gifts!!! May you not miss those special gifts that he wants to bless you with this week. I pray you will be looking for them as you set your mind on things above.
Love you!
