Summer is upon us. It’s been HOT.. but the water has been 👌. My family spends as many weekends as they can at our family lake house. It’s such a peaceful lake, not really ever crowded and we are fortunate that it’s not too far away. This is our sixth full summer (I think) there. Not growing up on the lake, water sports really take a lot of practice. My sister took this video of her husband, Evan, this weekend trying to do a 360 (video not loading for some reason.)He almost landed it! He sure has come a long way from just learning to get up.. but then again he has been practicing all these summers since my parents bought the lake house!! With wake boarding.. You just can’t get out of the wake or spin around over night. It takes a lot of tries and practice. I prefer skiing and I have been determined to slalom. This past weekend I finally was able to drop a ski and ride it out for my longest time (pic above). My other awesome hilarious brother in law ALMOST got up on the wake board this past weekend. He said he YouTubed “getting up on the wake board for big boy tips”. LOL YOU CAN DO IT CAREBEAR!!
Driving home that day all I could think about was personal goals. The three of us were all trying to get a little better. We each had our own goals we were working on. Maybe it’s to get up, maybe it’s to take it to the next advanced level, or maybe it’s to get a little better at a new skill. Regardless, you can’t compare yourself to that other person. You have to work on YOURSELF and be kind to yourself. Pat yourself on the back for being bold and brave. Love yourself for trying something hard. But do NOT compare yourself to Ms. Slalom skier who can do the entire ski course basically blindfolded.
My heart has been so burdened lately with social media. I sure am a sick and tired of the smiley my life is great, my husband is even greater and my kids are little angels all the time posts. Sure I am guilty of it too. But it’s really a false reality. You can’t compare yourself to others.. especially when the people you are comparing too are going through real life “wipeouts”, struggles, and trials. I truly believe the shiny Facebook and social media posts are contributing to the devasting depression our youth are facing today. Just a little reminder to NOT compare yourself, your family, your kids, your marriage or even your walk with Christ to the person that just posted 2 minutes ago. Continue to work on yourself and Personal goals that you want to achieve. Use social media as a platform to reach and love others. Encourage others. God says we are made in his image. We will not ever be perfect like him but he sure wants us to become more like him as we seek him on this earth. Strive to be like Christ and not the person whose story you just watched. Just a little reminder today. Stay encouraged! Maybe you need to take a break for social media for a while if you find yourself discouraged or comparing your little family to others. Maybe you need to challenge yourself to post a “real” post now and again... show me that face with no makeup. Show me your messy kitchen or your kid pitching a fit.. because that is real life! Regardless, God takes our messy lives and he wants to transform them into something greater. Focus on him and let him take you to your next personal level.
1 Corinthians 11:1 Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.
Psalm 139:23-24–Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!
Love always!
